Case 5

Albumin to Creatinine ratio (ACR)

Morning ACR values > 2.5 in males and > 3.5 in females correlated with the diagnosis of micro-albuminuria on 24 hours or overnight samples.

The ACR can be measured on any urine sample but is best done on the first sample in the morning to allow comparison with subsequent samples and to reduce confounding factors. It is easy to collect with minimal inconvenience to the patient.

ACR allows detection but not accurate quantification of micro-albuminuria.
