Introduction

Mario Angelina is a 55 year old builder and a new patient of your practice. He was diagnosed with diabetes at age 50. His blood sugar has been reasonably well controlled on Diamicron (gliclazide) 80 mg bd and Diabex (metformin) 500 mg tds. Mario had his eyes tested six months ago, which showed mild non-proliferative (background) diabetic retinopathy. He is not aware of any symptoms indicating to him a problem with his urinary tract and can't recall having any tests of kidney function.
